Samsung India has announced an update to its Samsung Wallet service, enabling Galaxy smartphone users in India to authenticate Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions using their device’s fingerprint sensor.
Under the new functionality, users can authorize UPI payments of up to ₹10,000 using fingerprint recognition, eliminating the requirement to manually input a UPI PIN for each transaction.
The integration relies on on-device biometric hardware rather than manual credential entry. According to the company, this approach is designed to enhance transaction privacy by preventing the exposure of PINs in public environments, while also addressing checkout friction caused by mistyped PIN entries and subsequent transaction failures.
By linking local biometric security with the UPI infrastructure, the feature aims to streamline routine digital payments on supported Galaxy devices within the specified transaction threshold.
