Samsung Electronics officially announced its next-generation P Series portable solid-state drives (SSDs) at Gamescom 2026. The new lineup includes the flagship P9 and the versatile P7, both equipped with USB4 connectivity to address increasing file sizes associated with generative AI workflows, ultra-high-resolution media, and modern video games.

Samsung P9: High-End Performance for Professional Workflows

The flagship P9 is designed primarily for creative professionals, production environments, and power users who require high data throughput.

• Transfer Speeds: Leverages USB4 to deliver sequential read speeds up to 4,000 MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 3,800 MB/s—roughly doubling the transfer rates of the previous-generation T9 (USB 3.2 Gen 2×2).
• Direct Capture: Sustained write capability supports direct 12K video recording for professional camera rigs and RAW image workflows.
• Capacity Milestone: Available in configurations up to 8TB, marking the industry’s first 8TB USB4 portable SSD operating at 4,000 MB/s. The drive received a CES 2026 Innovation Award earlier this year.

Samsung P7: High-Speed Storage for General Computing

Positioned for everyday productivity, entertainment, and mobile setups, the P7 brings USB4 capabilities into a broader consumer segment.
