Dolby Laboratories and Hisense recently announced the rollout of Dolby Vision 2, starting with select Hisense television models after it was introduced back in September last year. The next-generation HDR picture format will debut on Hisense displays before expanding via firmware updates across North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific (APAC) regions.
The updated format is designed to work with both existing Dolby Vision content and newly authored titles spanning movies, television shows, video games, and live sports broadcasts. Major streaming platforms, including CANAL+, iQIYI, and Peacock, have committed to utilizing the expanded feature set of Dolby Vision 2 for future release slates.
Supported Hisense Display Lineup
The initial rollout covers Hisense’s 2026 television lineup powered by either Google TV or VIDAA OS. The firmware update will apply to the following models:
- Hisense UX
- Hisense UR9
- Hisense UR8
- Hisense U7 (designated as U7 Pro in Europe, Middle East & Africa, and Central & South America)
Key Features of Dolby Vision 2
Dolby Vision 2 introduces an updated image processing engine across two separate hardware performance tiers: standard Dolby Vision 2 and premium Dolby Vision 2 Max.
Standard Tier Features
- Content Intelligence: Utilizes embedded metadata instructions within titles to dynamically adjust scene parameters in real time. The system automatically optimizes dark scenes, high-action sequences, and sports without requiring user menu adjustments.
- Intensity Slider: A customizable control allowing users to adjust color depth, contrast, and overall picture density to offset glare, wide viewing angle color shift, or personal viewing preferences.
Dolby Vision 2 Max Features
Offered exclusively on flagship and high-performance displays—with Hisense’s UX, UR9, UR8, and U7 series being the first globally to support it—Dolby Vision 2 Max adds high-end processing tools:
- Authentic Motion: A motion-processing tool for newly authored titles designed to eliminate frame judder and the “soap opera effect” while preserving traditional cinematic motion characteristics.
- Light Sense 2: Continuously monitors room illumination to adjust screen brightness and contrast for ambient lighting conditions without altering the intended color balance or shadow detail.
- Pro Settings: Granular calibration controls aimed at home display enthusiasts requiring precise performance adjustments.
