Google expands Gemini in Chrome to more regions with image editing and personalized AI features

Google has announced the expansion of Gemini in Chrome to additional regions while rolling out several of Chrome’s latest AI features. The update introduces new image editing capabilities, expanded personalization features, deeper integration with Google services, and additional security safeguards.

New Gemini in Chrome features

Gemini in Chrome functions as a personalized browsing assistant that can summarize content, compare information across multiple tabs, and help users access information while browsing. The assistant is designed to let users complete tasks and get answers without leaving the webpage they are currently viewing.

Through integrations with Google services, users can:

  • Schedule meetings with Google Calendar
  • Check location details using Google Maps
  • Draft and send emails through Gmail
  • Ask questions about YouTube videos

Google is also adding new Nano Banana 2 capabilities to the Gemini in Chrome side panel. The feature allows users to transform online images using text prompts directly within Chrome.

In addition, Gemini in Chrome can remember context from previous conversations, enabling more personalized interactions over time.

The company is also expanding Personal Intelligence capabilities. By connecting Gmail, Photos, YouTube, and Search, users can receive tailored answers based on information from those services.

Google says the features are designed with security in mind and to give users control over sensitive actions. The underlying models are trained to recognize known threats, including prompt injection attempts, and include safeguards that require confirmation before completing sensitive tasks.

Availability

Gemini in Chrome and many of Chrome’s latest AI features are rolling out starting today to desktop and iOS users across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and additional regions.

Personal Intelligence is available on desktop for Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro, and Google AI Ultra subscribers.
