vivo just launched the X300 Ultra, the company’s latest flagship smartphone in India, as it had promised. Marking the Indian debut of the top-tier device in the X Series, the smartphone places a heavy emphasis on mobile photography and videography through its continued partnership with ZEISS.
The X300 Ultra features an imaging system built around optical engineering, computational photography, and system-level optimization, aiming to provide a comprehensive camera experience for content creators and photography enthusiasts.
Core Camera Hardware: ZEISS Triple Prime Lenses
The X300 Ultra is equipped with a triple-camera module spanning 14mm, 35mm, and 85mm focal lengths. Each lens is paired with a large-format sensor, dedicated Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), and ZEISS optics to maintain consistent performance across various shooting scenarios.
- 14mm Ultra Wide-Angle Camera: Features a 50MP Sony LYTIA 818 sensor (1/1.28-inch). It includes 1.95° OIS and CIPA 6.0 stabilization for low-light and dynamic shooting. The ultra-wide lens also supports 4K at 120 fps video recording.
- 35mm Documentary Camera: Utilizes a 200MP Sony LYTIA 901 sensor (1/1.12-inch). Designed for street photography and portraits, it features CIPA 6.5 stabilization and 12-bit HDR for balanced exposure and clarity.
- 85mm APO Telephoto Camera: Incorporates a 200MP large-format sensor (1/1.4-inch) with a 3° gimbal-like OIS and CIPA 7.0 stabilization. Built to ZEISS APO standards to minimize chromatic aberration, this lens is positioned for portraits, action shots, and long-range captures.
The camera system also includes a 60 fps AF Tracking Snapshot Mode, which utilizes subject recognition to maintain autofocus on fast-moving subjects like sports or wildlife in real-time.
Videography and Color Science
vivo has extended the X300 Ultra’s imaging capabilities into video, allowing users to shift seamlessly between ultra-wide and telephoto focal lengths without losing access to key features.
- Video Capabilities: The device supports Multi-Focal 4K 120 fps 10-bit Log Video, Dolby Vision, and an All-New Pro Video Mode that offers manual controls for exposure, focus, and tone. It also supports 4K 120 fps Slow-Motion and 4K Time-Lapse video.
- Audio: Video recording is supported by a Quad-Mic Audio Recording System equipped with intelligent noise-reduction presets.
- Color Accuracy: The device debuts a new vivo Color Science system utilizing a 5MP multi-spectral sensor with 12 color channels. This hardware, combined with ZEISS T* coating and Super Blue Glass, is designed to accurately analyze ambient light, reduce flare, and deliver natural color reproduction.
Performance, Display, and Design
Under the hood, the vivo X300 Ultra is powered by high-end hardware tailored to support its intensive image processing requirements.
- SoC: The smartphone runs on the Snapdragon® 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform, supported by vivo’s proprietary Pro Imaging Chip VS1+.
- Cooling and Battery: Thermal management is handled by a large liquid cooling vapor chamber. The device is powered by a 6600 mAh battery supporting 100W Wired FlashCharge and 40W Wireless FlashCharge.
- Display: It features a 6.82-inch (17.32 cm) 2K ZEISS Master Color Display with Ultra XDR support and high peak brightness, designed to act as a highly accurate viewfinder.
- Software: The device operates on OriginOS 6, which includes features like Origin Island, drag-and-go interactions, and optimized multitasking tools.
- Build: The design mimics professional cameras with a split-design aesthetic, a unibody glass-fiber construction, a signature red ring, and knurled textures. The phone carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for water and dust resistance.
Optional Accessories
Alongside the smartphone, vivo announced optional accessories designed to expand the device’s utility (sold separately):
- vivo ZEISS Telephoto Extenders: Available in a 400mm Equivalent Gen 2 Ultra (4.7x) for extreme long-distance shooting and a 200mm Equivalent Gen 2 (2.35x) for everyday telephoto use.
- vivo Imaging Grip Kit: A camera-like grip attachment featuring a built-in 2300 mAh battery to extend shooting times and provide physical stability.
