REDMI K90 Max with 6.83″ 165Hz AMOLED display, Dimensity 9500, Active cooling fan, 8550mAh battery announced

Xiaomi has officially announced the REDMI K90 Max, as it had promised. The new device introduces active cooling technology to the brand’s lineup and features a range of high-end internal specifications tailored for performance and gaming.

Design and Build Quality

The REDMI K90 Max is constructed with an aluminum alloy frame and features an ultra-narrow bezel design, complemented by a minimalist grille opening to accommodate its internal cooling system.

The device is available in three color options: Space Silver, Shadow Black and Sky Blue. In terms of durability, the smartphone features an all-metal bearing structure and is certified for IP66, IP68, and IP69 dust and water resistance. Additionally, the device’s internal mechanisms have reportedly passed a 50,000-hour aging test.

Active Cooling System

A distinguishing feature of the REDMI K90 Max is its built-in fan for heat dissipation, marking a first for Xiaomi smartphones. The device utilizes an independent sealed air duct system to manage thermals.

Key specifications of the cooling system include:

  • Fan Size: An 18.1mm large fan, which is reported to be 6% larger in diameter than mainstream smartphone fans.
  • Design: Features a vertical air intake and forward-leaning fan blades designed for pressurized airflow.
  • Airflow Metrics: Generates an airflow of 0.42 Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM), noted as being 1.3 times that of comparable competitors.
  • Airflow Duct: Incorporates a simulated vortex airflow duct to minimize path turbulence, achieving an airflow utilization rate of 78.6%.
  • Cooling Rate: According to Xiaomi’s test data, high-speed cooling mode can reduce the device’s temperature by 10°C in 100 seconds.
  • Noise Management: The fan offers three adjustable modes. At its highest setting, the acoustic output is rated at 32dB.

Xiaomi states that this cooling efficiency allows the device to maintain stable frame rates for extended periods during game testing compared to competing models.

Hardware and Performance

The REDMI K90 Max is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor. To support gaming and visual processing, it is equipped with an AI discrete graphics chip, the D2. It has up to 16GB LPDDR5X Ultra memory and up to 1TB UFS 4.1 flash storage.

The hardware configuration supports 1.5K resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate concurrently across hundreds of supported games.
