WhatsApp rolls out chat management tools, dual account support on iOS, cross-device transfer and more

WhatsApp is rolling out new features focused on chat management, device switching, and usability improvements. The update introduces storage cleanup tools, iPhone-to-Android chat transfer, and dual account support on iOS, along with sticker suggestions, Meta AI photo editing, and AI Writing Help.

Storage management and media cleanup

Users can now manage storage directly within chats. By opening a chat, tapping the chat name, and selecting Manage Storage, it is possible to view and delete large files. Media can be removed selectively without deleting the full conversation, helping free up device space while preserving chat history.

Chat transfer from iPhone to Android

WhatsApp supports secure chat transfer from iPhone to Android using end-to-end encryption.

  • Data that can be transferred: account information, individual and group chats, communities, WhatsApp Channels updates, chat history, call history, media, and settings.
  • Data that cannot be transferred: display name, status updates, media from Channels, and peer-to-peer payment messages.

Requirements: Android 10 or above, same phone number on both devices, latest WhatsApp versions on iOS and Android, stable Wi-Fi connection, and WhatsApp data must remain on the iPhone until the transfer is complete.

Steps to transfer chats

  1. Open WhatsApp on iPhone.
  2. Go to Chats > Transfer chat history > Transfer to Android.
  3. Tap Continue.
  4. Allow camera access and keep the iPhone unlocked.
  5. On Android, open WhatsApp and verify the same phone number.
  6. Tap Allow to connect devices; a QR code will appear.
  7. Scan the QR code using the iPhone camera.
  8. Tap Join to connect via Wi-Fi and begin the transfer.
  9. After completion, tap Next on Android to access chats.

Notes:

  1. Transfer time depends on data size, and chats must be transferred before activating WhatsApp on the new device, as chats cannot be merged and data is transferred over local Wi-Fi instead of cloud storage.
  2. WhatsApp Business is not supported, the old device retains data unless manually deleted, phone number changes must be completed beforehand, and status updates as well as payment messages cannot be transferred.
Dual accounts on iOS

WhatsApp now allows users to use two accounts on a single iOS device. Users can switch between accounts without needing multiple phones, with a profile indicator in the bottom tab showing the active account.

Sticker suggestions

Sticker suggestions appear while typing emojis, allowing users to quickly replace emojis with more expressive sticker options during chats.

Meta AI photo editing

Photos can be edited directly within chats using Meta AI. Users can remove unwanted elements, adjust backgrounds, and apply styles before sending images. Availability may vary by user.

AI Writing Help

WhatsApp introduces AI Writing Help that suggests replies based on conversation context. It helps users draft messages in different tones such as professional, supportive, or humorous while keeping message processing private.

Availability

WhatsApp says it is rolling out these features gradually, and they will be available to everyone soon.
