Devialet launched Devialet Phantom Ultimate, a significant update to its flagship Phantom speaker line in India. Marking a decade since the debut of the original, the new range includes two models—the Phantom Ultimate 108 dB and the Phantom Ultimate 98 dB—both featuring updated internal architecture, refined aesthetics, and a new operating system.
Design and Engineering
While the Phantom Ultimate retains the signature spherical silhouette of its predecessors, Devialet has implemented several physical changes. The flagship Phantom Ultimate 108 dB features a redesigned central core that removes the woofer cover to create a seamless visual profile. The tweeter grille has also been reworked with optimized apertures to balance aesthetics with acoustic transparency.
The speakers are available in two new finishes: Deep Forest, a dark, organic tone with black chrome details and subtle green reflections, and Light Pearl, a matte off-white hue inspired by bisque ceramics.
The range is manufactured at La Manufacture Devialet in France, utilizing a combination of robotics and hand-assembly.
Technical Specifications
The new lineup is powered by a dedicated NXP i.MX 8M Nano processor, integrated into a system-on-a-chip (SoC) designed to improve energy efficiency and audio processing capabilities.
- Devialet Phantom Ultimate 108 dB: This model offers a total amplification power of 1,100 Watts. It features an extended frequency response of 14 Hz to 35 kHz (+/- 6 dB) and 32-bit/96 kHz audio processing. It includes four physical touch controls on the top of the chassis.
- Devialet Phantom Ultimate 98 dB: Designed as a more compact option, this model delivers 400 Watts of power with a frequency response of 18 Hz to 25 kHz (+/- 6 dB). It utilizes a co-spherical wideband driver design to manage soundstage and clarity.
Both models incorporate Devialet’s proprietary technologies:
- ADH® (Analog Digital Hybrid) New Gen: Combines analog Class A amplification for linearity with digital Class D for compactness. The latest iteration improves thermal dissipation and high-frequency precision.
- SAM® (Speaker Active Matching): An algorithm that adapts the signal in real-time to the speaker’s characteristics.
- HBI® (Heart Bass Implosion): Engineered to produce ultra-low frequencies in a small enclosure.
- AVL™ (Adaptive Volume Level): Adopted from the Devialet Dione soundbar, this feature adjusts volume dynamics in real-time based on content type.
Connectivity and Software
The Phantom Ultimate runs on DOS3, the latest version of Devialet’s operating system. This update unifies the interface across Devialet’s product range and introduces wider connectivity support, including Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. Streaming protocols now include AirPlay, Google Cast, Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and UPnP.
The accompanying Devialet App has been redesigned to offer a six-band equalizer and specific audio modes:
- Music Mode: Faithful rendering of the source material.
- Podcast Mode: Emphasizes vocal clarity.
- Cinema Mode: Increases immersion for film content.
Opéra de Paris Edition
Continuing a partnership established in 2017, Devialet is offering an exclusive Opéra de Paris edition for both models. These units feature side panels adorned with 22-carat gold leaf, applied by hand using traditional techniques by the master gilders at Ateliers Gohard.
