Indian tablet shipments fall 19.7% YoY in Q3 2025: IDC

India’s tablet market shipped 1.33 million units in Q3 2025, registering a 19.7% year-over-year (YoY) decline, according to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker.

The market comprises detachables and slate tablets. While detachables increased 7.3% YoY, the 29.4% YoY fall in slate tablets led to an overall drop in shipments. The quarter was defined by a steep contraction in the commercial segment, while the consumer market delivered strong growth.

Market Trends

The consumer segment grew 13.5% YoY, driven by festive-season demand, enhanced vendor sell-in, discounts, exchange offers, and refreshed product lines.

In contrast, the commercial segment declined 53.5% YoY, led by a 61.9% drop in education deployments and a 47.9% decrease in small office (SOHO) purchases, reflecting postponed education projects, cost-cutting across SMBs, and longer refresh cycles.

Meanwhile, the e-tail channel recorded 53.9% YoY growth, underlining the increasing role of online platforms in driving tablet adoption across India.

IDC Commentary

According to Priyansh Tiwari, research analyst, IDC India & South Asia, festive e-tail activity pushed tablet adoption deeper into lower-tier cities through competitive pricing and efficient delivery networks.

He added that although inventory levels remain high and could require adjustment, sustained sell-through trends indicate the consumer market is positioned to sustain growth momentum.

With AI capabilities becoming increasingly integrated, tablets are evolving into productivity-centric devices with personalised usage patterns and efficient workflows.

Shenoy added that as PC prices are expected to rise further, tablets are likely to become a cost-effective option for first-time buyers and government-funded projects, helping fill the gap left by traditional PCs.
