OnePlus has confirmed that its upcoming device, the OnePlus 15R, will be the first smartphone globally to launch with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Mobile Platform.
The OnePlus 15R is the newest addition to the OnePlus R series, a line of devices positioned as flagship offerings with a focus on high performance and enhanced gaming capabilities. Consistent with this focus, the OnePlus 15R will debut with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Mobile Platform.
This chipset is the latest expansion of the Snapdragon 8 Series, which has also been featured in preceding R-series models, including the OnePlus 11R, OnePlus 12R, and OnePlus 13R.
According to the announcement, the development of this new chipset was a collaboration between Qualcomm and OnePlus. Performance metrics released indicate a 36% increase in CPU performance compared to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Additionally, the new platform is stated to offer an 11% increase in GPU performance and an improvement of up to 46% in AI performance.
The full unveiling of the OnePlus 15R is scheduled for 17 December, with the company noting that more details regarding the device will be released in the weeks leading up to the launch.
