Google has begun rolling out new AI-powered features to Google Photos, including integration of the Nano Banana image model, expanded natural-language editing tools, and wider access to Ask Photos in more countries and languages.
AI Editing and Creation Tools
Personalized photo edits with text or voice
Google Photos now allows users to make targeted edits by describing what they want changed. Through the “Help me edit” option, users can type or say commands such as “Remove Riley’s sunglasses,” “Open my eyes,” or “Make Engel smile.” The feature uses images from private face groups to generate accurate, person-specific edits.

Edit by asking — now available on iOS
The natural-language editing experience, previously on Android, is now extending to iOS users in the U.S. Eligible users with Gemini features in Photos enabled can perform edits using voice or text instructions. The redesigned editor also introduces gesture controls and one-tap suggestions for faster editing.

Nano Banana Image Model Integration
Restyle photos with AI transformations
The Nano Banana model is now available in the Google Photos editor, allowing users to transform images using descriptive prompts. By selecting “Help me edit,” users can restyle photos in various themes, such as a Renaissance portrait, mosaic pattern, or children’s storybook page.

Create with AI templates
A new Create with AI section is being added to the Create tab on Android in the U.S. and India. It includes ready-to-use templates powered by Nano Banana for edits such as “create a professional headshot” or “make a winter holiday card.”

In the next phase, Google will release personalized templates in select U.S. regions. These will generate custom edits informed by a user’s gallery activity or interests — for example, a cartoon version of themselves or visual designs related to their favorite activities.

The feature is available to users aged 18 and older with Gemini features, face groups, location estimates, and the “Me” cluster enabled.
Ask Photos Expansion
Available in 100+ countries and 17 new languages
Ask Photos, Google’s AI-powered photo search tool, now supports over 100 new countries and regions along with 17 additional languages. It allows users to find specific images or information in their library using natural language, accessible to eligible users with Gemini features in Photos.

New “Ask” button within photo view
Google is also introducing a new Ask button for Ask Photos users on Android and iOS in the U.S. This allows users to interact directly with an image—asking questions about its content, exploring related photos, or requesting edits. The feature appears while viewing a photo and supports typed or suggested prompts.

Availability
Google stated that all new features, including Nano Banana-powered editing tools and Ask Photos expansion, are rolling out now to eligible users with Gemini features enabled in Google Photos.
