In a recent conversation with FoneArena, Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus India, shared updates on the company’s ongoing efforts to rebuild trust among users through Project Starlight, its lifetime warranty commitment, and its broader Made-in-India strategy. He also spoke about improving relationships with retail partners and hinted at what’s next for the brand.
Rebuilding trust
Last year, OnePlus became one of the first smartphone brands to openly acknowledge the “green line” display issue and respond with a concrete user program. Under Project Starlight, the company introduced a lifetime warranty for affected users — a move that, according to Liu, has helped OnePlus regain confidence among its community.
He noted that the initiative was not only about resolving a technical issue, but also about reinforcing the brand’s long-term commitment to its users. Internal surveys following the launch of the OnePlus 13S and Nord 5 series show that the lifetime warranty has emerged as one of the top three reasons users are choosing OnePlus again.
Expanding service reach
As part of Project Starlight, OnePlus has expanded its service network significantly. The company now covers over 19,000 pin codes across India and operates more than 40 exclusive service centers. It has also partnered with additional service providers to improve turnaround times and repair support.
The program extends beyond display repairs, offering easy upgrade options to newer flagship devices, further strengthening user satisfaction and long-term engagement.
Improving retailer relations
Liu acknowledged that there were earlier challenges with some retail partners, particularly in South India, related to pricing and claim settlements. However, he said that the situation has improved considerably. The company has been actively engaging with trade associations such as MRA and ORA, and senior leadership has been meeting partners in key markets like Chennai during the festive season to address concerns directly.
Made in India focus
Reiterating OnePlus’ manufacturing commitment, Liu confirmed that all OnePlus smartphones are now made in India, a transition that began in 2018. The company has also started local production for audio products and tablets in collaboration with Optiemus Electronics Limited (OEL) and Bhagwati Products Ltd. (BPL), with plans to extend this to all future product lines.
According to the company, this move aligns with its long-term strategy for the Indian market and its ‘Project Starlight’ initiative, which focuses on deepening local integration and manufacturing capabilities.
What’s next
At the recent Snapdragon Summit, OnePlus showcased its upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 15. While Liu did not share a launch date, he indicated that the announcement is expected very soon.
