vivo is poised for a significant software shift with the global release of its Origin OS, with the upcoming Origin OS 6, based on Android 16, marking its international debut. The company has rebranded @FuntouchOS_IN X handle to OriginOS.
This move would see the company’s visually distinct and feature-rich operating system replace the more conventional Funtouch OS on devices outside of China.
OriginOS 6 launch date and features
vivo recently confirmed that OriginOS 6 will be unveiled in China on October 10, 2025 at the vivo Developer Conference. The new version is expected to introduce a “Comfort Engineering” design philosophy, aiming for a more natural and intuitive user experience.
Teasers have pointed towards a revamped lock screen with enhanced customization options such as transparent design. Using real-time rendering technology to simulate the refraction and shadows of natural light, the digital clock component intelligently adjusts the contrast based on the lighting, creating a more layered, three-dimensional effect.
Furthermore, a new transparent color palette has been added to the lock screen. Subtly varying the transparency creates a natural drop shadow against the background, allowing the lock screen image to blend more seamlessly with the user interface.
For years, vivo has maintained a dual-OS strategy, with OriginOS being exclusive to its home market in China, while global users have been offered Funtouch OS. The latter provides a more stock-Android-like experience, whereas OriginOS is known for its unique design language, intricate animations, and a plethora of customization features, including behavioral wallpapers and interactive widgets.
vivo X300 series and the iQOO 15 with OriginOS 6
The upcoming vivo X300 series and the iQOO 15 will be the first smartphones to ship with OriginOS 6 out of the box in the Chinese market when these are launched in October, and this will also likely be the case for the global markets as well when the phones are launched globally later this year.
While there has been no official confirmation from vivo regarding the global roll-out details of OriginOS 6, we can expect an official launch date soon.
