Google expands Veo 3 with vertical 9:16 format, 1080p HD output, lower pricing, and Gemini API production support

Google has rolled out three major updates to Veo 3, its advanced video generation model: support for vertical video (9:16 aspect ratio), 1080p HD resolution, and reduced pricing. The company has also made Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast stable for scaled production use through the Gemini API.

Lower Pricing for Veo 3

Effective September 8, 2025, Google has cut costs for developers and creators using Veo 3:

  • Veo 3: $0.40 per second (previously $0.75)
  • Veo 3 Fast: $0.15 per second (previously $0.40)
Vertical Video and 1080p Support

With this update, Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast can produce vertical videos in 9:16 format, built for mobile and social sharing. Developers can also generate 1080p HD videos by setting the resolution parameter to “1080p,” enabling higher-quality results.

MediaSim Demo in AI Studio

Google highlighted its MediaSim demo app in AI Studio, which integrates the tldraw SDK for an interactive canvas. The demo combines Gemini’s multimodal understanding, image editing, and generation capabilities with Veo 3’s video and audio features to create multimodal media simulations.

Developer Use Cases

Several platforms have already adopted Veo 3 to accelerate creative workflows:

  • Invisible Studio – An AI-native engine for short-form content. It uses Veo 3 for fast, detailed video creation, improving productivity and becoming the most-used video model on the platform within eight weeks.

  • Saga – A generative AI platform for filmmakers. Powered by Veo 3 and Imagen 4, it streamlines script-to-screen workflows, supporting previsualization (“previz”) and animatics at higher fidelity.

  • Mosaic – An agentic video editor. By combining prompts with seed images, it generates image-to-video outputs with coherence across sequences. It allows generation of 64-second videos with native audio, surpassing Veo’s usual 8-second limit, and provides timeline editing tools.

Google has shared an example Python script to generate a video (latest google-genai required).

Google noted that Veo-generated videos will keep carrying the digital SynthID watermark to provide transparency and authenticity.

Availability

To get started, developers can access Veo 3 with the AI Studio starter app and the Veo Cookbook.
