State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has confirmed the soft launch of its 4G mobile network in Delhi. Unlike its ongoing indigenous rollout, the service in the capital will initially function through a partner-assisted 4G-as-a-service model, which provides radio coverage for compatible devices using BSNL SIM cards.
Service Availability in Delhi
From August 15, 2025, new customers in Delhi got BSNL’s 4G connection for both calling and data. SIM cards and electronic KYC will be available at BSNL and MTNL service outlets as well as approved retail points. The company said the setup offers instant 4G in Delhi, even as its nationwide network rollout is still in progress.
Commenting on the development, BSNL CMD A. Robert J. Ravi said the approach allows “citywide coverage immediately” while the company simultaneously expands its own network.
BSNL Anti-Spam & Anti-Smishing Protection
BSNL has introduced a nationwide network-based Anti-Spam and Anti-Smishing service for mobile users. No apps or manual settings are needed. Suspicious SMS links are blocked in real time at the network level, while OTPs, banking alerts, and government messages continue normally under TRAI’s DLT/UCC system.
Built with Indian cloud communications firm Tanla, the solution uses AI/ML, NLP, reputation intelligence, and link expansion, integrated with the blockchain DLT framework used by Indian telcos. The system works nationwide with over 99% accuracy in detecting smishing and neutralizes new threats quickly.
Key Features
- Detects 1.5 million scams daily
- Flags over 35,000 fraudulent links and 60,000 scam numbers monthly
- Powered by four AI/ML engines with NLP and deep learning
- All BSNL subscribers automatically benefit from this protection, reducing risks of fraud. The service is enabled by default in active circles.
Parallel Announcements
Along with the Delhi soft launch, BSNL made several other service-related announcements, including:
- E-SIM trial launch in Tamil Nadu
- Introduction of BiTV Premium Packs
- Formation of the BSNL–MTNL Converged CMD Grievance Monitoring Cell
Future Outlook
The company started its larger 4G rollout in 2024 with Rs. 25,000 crore, deploying more than 1.12 lakh towers using equipment from TCS and C-DoT partners. An additional Rs. 47,000 crore has been earmarked for further expansion.
