realme 9 Speed Edition Unboxing and First Impressions

realme launched the realme 9 series smartphones in India as the successor to last year’s realme 8, but the new speed edition model of the realme 9 packs in a 144Hz LCD variable refresh rate screen and is one of the first first phones in the range to pack a Snapdragon 778G SoC. We got hold of the phone, and here is our unboxing.

The realme 9 5G Speed Edition has a 6.6-inch Full HD+ LCD punch-hole screen with a pixel resolution of 2412 × 1080 pixels 2.5D curved glass screen with gentle rounded corners. The display is bright, and the sunlight legibility is good as well, thanks to 600 nits peak brightness. It has 144Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate, but the highlight is the adaptive refresh rate feature that can automatically switch between 6 different refresh rates -24Hz / 30Hz / 48Hz / 60Hz/ 90Hz/144Hz.

It has the punch-hole that houses a 16-megapixel camera, which has been in a standard in most realme mid-range phones. The earpiece is present on the top edge and doubles up as a secondary speaker. Powered by Snapdragon 778G 6nm SoC with up to 8GB of RAM, the performance is the best in the range. It also has Dynamic RAM Expansion (DRE) technology, which can add up to 5GB to the existing 8GB RAM.

Coming to the button placements, the power button which includes the fingerprint scanner is present on the right side. The dedicated dual SIM and microSD slots are on the left, along with the volume rockers. The 3.5 mm audio jack, primary microphone, USB Type-C port and the loudspeaker grill are present on the bottom. The secondary microphone is on the top. Audio from the speaker is decent.

Coming to the camera, the phone has a 48-megapixel main camera with f/1.8 aperture and Samsung sensor. It has a 2-megapixel 4cm macro camera and a 2-megapixel B&W portrait camera  with f/2.4 aperture. It supports up to 4K 30 fps video recording, and there is also 1080p portrait video option. Coming to the design, the phone has starlight design. It uses topography texture process and multiple micron-sized pyramids, and the special starlight texture offers a starry visual inspired by the mysterious and distant galaxy, dispersing layers of nebula, says the company.

The phone is 8.5mm thin, and weighs 199 grams since it packs a 5000mAh battery. The phone has support for 30W fast charging that can charge up to 50% in 25 minutes.

Priced starting at Rs. 19,999 for the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage version, the phone will be available from realme.com, Flipkart and offline stores starting from March 14th.
