Google Safe Browsing to restrict apps that collect personal user data without consent

Google Safe Browsing

Google in an effort to take on unwanted and harmful mobile behaviors on Android, will now show warnings on apps and on websites leading to apps that collect user’s personal data without consent. The new rules of the Google’s Safe browsing team will restrict Apps and their behavior while handling personal user data.

Apps are required to prompt users for permissions and to provide their own privacy policy in the app and if a specific app collects and transmits personal data unrelated to the functionality of the app, then it needs to highlight how the user data will be used and have user’s consent prior to the collection and transmission and these collection rules apply to all functions of the app.

These new restrictions and rules are applicable to apps in Google Play and non-Play app markets. Google Play Protect will show a warning whenever an app tries to collect data without user’s consent. This behavior will also be extended to web pages that lead to these apps. App developers and webmaster have 60 days time to implement changes before Google starts sending warnings to users.
