Twitter had announced in May that it will make changes to the 140 character limit. The micro blogging site is changing how it counts characters in a tweet from next week.

A report from The Verge says, from September 19th, Twitter will exempt @names in replies, media attachments such as photos, GIFs, videos and polls from the 140 character limit. The report does not mention whether all of these features will be implemented at the same time or it will be a gradual roll out.

As of now, the links inside a tweet currently take up 23 characters while a photo takes up 24 characters. By removing photos and links from the character limit, users will be able to add more content/ text. Earlier in March this year, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey confirmed that 140-character limit is here to stay.
