Google to roll out improved symptom search

Google Symptoms Search

Google has launched a new symptom search feature that makes it easier to navigate and explore health conditions related to your symptoms in a more accurate way.

The company says that about one percent of searches are related to health symptoms. Now when you ask Google about symptoms like “headache on one side,” it will show you a list of related conditions like migraine, tension headache, cluster headache, sinusitis, common cold and so on. In case of an individual symptoms like ‘headache’, it will  also give you an overview description along with information on self-treatment options and suggest a doctor’s visit.

Google says it creates list of symptoms by looking for health conditions mentioned in web results. It then checks them against high-quality medical information that is collected from doctors for its Knowledge Graph. Earlier in April, Google rolled health cards with more than 400 health conditions in India.

The new symptoms search will be rolled out on mobile over the next few days, in English starting with the U.S. Google says it will eventually cover more symptoms and extend the feature to other languages and internationally.
