Spotify finally gets a makeover on Windows Phone with new UI and features

Spotify-windows-phone-update

Spotify, one of the world’s leading streaming music services, has long neglected the Windows Phone platform, even when it already had an archaic version for the yesteryear Windows Phone 7 operating system, but times are a changing. A much needed makeover has finally happened and the update is now available for all Windows Phone 8 users. The update not only includes a visual makeover, but also new features of the service like “Spotify Radio”, a Pandora-like auto-recommendations. But the biggest catch is, the app still requires you to have a premium account, whereas free streaming is available on other platforms since the end of last year. We should hopefully see another update to address this issue.

What’s new in Spotify 3.0?

– Completely redesigned to bring you fresh, clear, and fast way to find the music you love
– Spotify radio comes to Windows Phone! Pick a track, artist, or album and Spotify will find similar music – it’s like having your own personal radio station!
– Find and explore new music with personalised recommendations in Discover, or browse top playlists in Browse
– There are known issues with Facebook two factor authentication.  These issues will be fixed in a future update.

The changelog above elaborates on the redesign, Spotify Radio and other new features added to the update. Also, it acknowledges the current issue in Facebook authentication, which has been assured a fix in the future update. New interface and features aside, the service is something you might have stumbled upon. The service has been lauded for being innovative and creating a new business model in music, but also been blamed for bringing the already crashing revenues in music, further down. Technology has always found ways to adapt to people’s needs rather than the other way, so we hope this is just a “in-transition” thing, because streaming is so much more easier.
