ABC News goes to Apple’s Top Secret Foxconn facility in Chengdu, China


ABC News reporter Bill Weir has manged to get into Apple’s Top Secret Foxconn facility in Chengdu , China. Apple had invited ABC News to show the birth place of Apple products after the company was in the limelight for the wrong reasons regarding working conditions inside the  factories.Apple has ordered an private audit of the facilities after these allegations came up.

Some interesting findings by ABC News

  • It takes just under 24 hours to assemble an iPhone from separate parts to final boxed product  ready to ship.
  • If you ordered a product as a gift , its pretty much packed in China
  • Employees work in shifts like in most factories
  • Total silence is maintained at assembly points
  • Workers wear anti-static suits in certain zones like the iPhone camera assembly zone
  • Starting salary for the employees is $285 or Rs.14000 approx per month

Wow just found out that the same reporter had pitched an interview to Steve Jobs last year and the company had declined the interview.
