Google reveals when it will stop Android updates for Nexus devices

Google has updated its support page with details about when each Nexus device will stop receiving Android updates. 

The Nexus devices typically get Android updates for atleast two years since its launch. Google had also confirmed that security patches for these devices are provided for three years from release or 18 months from when it leaves the Google Store. The page lists following Nexus devices under the title “No guaranteed Android version updates after”.

List of Nexus devices:

  • Nexus 5X – September 2017
  • Nexus 6P – September 2017
  • Nexus 9 – October 2016
  • Nexus 5 – October 2015
  • Nexus 7 (2013) – July 2015
  • Nexus 10 – November 2014

Besides the Nexus devices, the Google support page also talks about Android One devices. These phones will receive software updates for at least 18 months after the phone’s launch. Moreover, all Android One phones will get at least one major software update and several smaller security updates.
