Chandrasekaran did not mention his future plans but revealed that he will remain in India to do something entrepreneurial. He had a key role to play in Airtel’s music service Wynk as well as revamping the My Airtel app. During his stint, Airtel partnered with Google for Android One and became the first offline partner for selling Xiaomi smartphones at its retail outlets. He played an important role in the company for launching mobile payments services and saw its mobile data business more than double.

Overall, during his time at Airtel, the Indian telecom operator saw double growth in its mobile data business, which now accounts for 15 percent of Airtel’s $15 billion in annual revenue. However, Airtel has been through minor set backs – first in December when it announced that it will charge for VoIP calls at standard rates and introduced separate VoIP packs. Last month, the telecom company launched Airtel Zero where app developers or service providers could pay the carrier for data so users could use their services for free.
