Apple would unveil its long rumored smartwatch at an event in October, according to reports from Japanese business newspaper Nikkei and Re/code. Apple introduced its new Health app with the iOS 8 earlier this month that would collect a number of body metrics including blood pressure, heart rate, and stats on diet and exercise and consolidate at one place.

The Apple iWatch is expected to collect all these health data from the user using different sensors and would also show notifications from the iOS devices it is connected to, according to the report. It is expected to run on iOS 8 and could come with curved organic light-emitting diode (OLED) touch screen, but Apple is still finalizing specifications for the device.

According to a parts manufacturer for the smartwatch, it plans monthly commercial output of about 3-5 million units, says the Nikkei report. Nike introduced Nike+ Move app for the iPhone 5S last year that uses the phone’s M7 co-processor to detect motion using a trio of sensors – Accelerometer, Compass and Gyroscope.

Nike is likely to partner with Apple again for the iWatch in future to integrate their services, the report adds. Apple also introduced HealthKit for developers that would let them combine data from various different health and fitness devices and apps, and make them accessible all in one place.

The iWatch could come in multiple variants at different price points, according to recent rumors. Apple is yet to reveal a specific date in October for the launch event. The company is also expected to launch the iPhone 6 later this year. It could launch both these devices at the same event in October.
