Apple working on AirTag-sized AI pin wearable: Report

Apple is reportedly developing a small wearable AI pin, according to a report from The Information. If launched, the device would mark Apple’s first dedicated AI-focused wearable and is expected to run a new Siri chatbot planned for introduction with iOS 27. The project is said to be in early development and could still be delayed or canceled.

The device is described as a thin, flat, circular disc with an aluminum-and-glass shell. Apple engineers are reportedly aiming for a form factor similar in size to an AirTag, though slightly thicker. The pin is intended to be worn on clothing, but a built-in attachment mechanism has not yet been finalized.

Apple AI pin: Reported hardware and functionality details
  • Two front-facing cameras, including one standard lens and one wide-angle lens, designed for capturing photos and video
  • Three microphones intended to detect surrounding audio
  • Built-in speaker for audio playback
  • Physical control button positioned along one edge for direct interaction
  • Wireless or strip-style charging similar to other wearable devices
  • Unclear whether the device would be sold standalone or bundled with future smart glasses or other hardware
  • Onboard cameras, microphones, speaker, and physical controls indicate potential independent operation

Looking ahead, Apple’s AI pin could launch as early as 2027, but its future will likely depend on whether consumer demand for standalone AI wearables develops. While companies such as OpenAI, Meta, and Amazon are also exploring AI-driven hardware, earlier AI pin efforts have struggled to gain traction, leaving the category’s long-term viability uncertain.
