Elgato, a subsidiary brand of Corsair, has announced the launch of Wave Go, marking the company’s entry into the wireless microphone market. Designed primarily for mobile creators, the system pairs a compact clip-on transmitter with a handheld adapter, allowing users to alternate between lapel and interview-style recording configurations.
Hardware and Form Factor
The core of the Wave Go system is a coin-sized transmitter weighing 7 grams, which attaches to clothing via magnetic mounts. For handheld applications, such as street interviews, the unit slots into an included accessory called the Smart Handle.
Connection to smartphones is handled through a single USB-C receiver that supports pass-through charging to maintain the host device’s battery during prolonged sessions. A dedicated carrying case houses the transmitter, receiver, and Smart Handle, with additional internal space reserved for an optional second transmitter.
Audio Processing and Controls
Wave Go relies on a condenser capsule paired with automated onboard processing. The hardware features an automatic profile-switching function (“EQ Shift”) that adjusts equalization depending on whether the unit is docked in the Smart Handle or worn on clothing.
Additional automated features include:
- Auto Gain: Balances volume levels in real time to prevent clipping during loud passages and raise volume during quieter speech.
- Peak Limiting and Low-Cut Filtering: Built-in safeguards designed to mitigate abrupt audio peaks and low-frequency rumble.
- Noise Reduction: A hardware toggle on the receiver engages active noise cancellation for louder environments.
Physical buttons on the transmitter and Smart Handle provide control over power, mute functions, and smartphone recording. Status LEDs indicate active settings and remaining power. For deeper configuration, users can adjust gain, noise cancellation thresholds, and monitor battery levels through the Wave Go mobile app on iOS and Android.
Desktop Integration
While targeted at mobile workflows, the system also functions as a desktop microphone over USB on PC and macOS. In desktop environments, Wave Go interfaces with Elgato’s Wave Link mixing utility, enabling users to route virtual audio channels, apply real-time effects like Voice Focus for room reverb reduction, and manage controls using Stream Deck hardware.
Battery Specifications
The standalone transmitter provides up to 8 hours of continuous operation per charge. When docked in the Smart Handle, integrated cells supply up to five full recharges, extending total operational time to an estimated 48 hours. A 10-minute quick charge yields approximately one hour of recording time.
