Apple is preparing a major MacBook Pro overhaul that will bring OLED and touchscreen technology to the Mac for the first time, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The new MacBook Pro will also feature macOS Golden Gate changes to support touch input and the Dynamic Island, while its OLED display, short for organic light-emitting diode, will offer sharper contrast. The new MacBook Pro models are also expected to be significantly lighter, with Apple reengineering the interior by miniaturizing parts and rearranging components.
The current 16-inch MacBook Pro weighs as much as 4.8 pounds, compared with 3.3 pounds for the 15-inch MacBook Air. According to Gurman, the new MacBook Pro models are currently being tested with macOS 27.2 and are expected to arrive by next month. He also reports that Apple is preparing its first OLED iPad mini, expected between late October and November, with a better screen, faster chip and landscape-oriented FaceTime camera that brings it in line with Apple’s other iPads.
Gurman further reports that Apple is planning an October 13 event to unveil a new smart home hub with a display, new HomePod mini and updated Apple TV set-top box, with Siri AI at the core of all three devices. The report also says the iPhone Duo is scheduled to ship on October 23.
