HMD India has announced the availability of PhonePe UPI 123Pay across an expanded range of HMD and Nokia feature phones in India. The integration brings UPI-based digital payment services to users of supported feature phones.
On supported devices, users can send and receive money using a mobile number or UPI ID. On camera-equipped models, users can also scan QR codes and make payments. The service also supports checking bank balances, viewing transaction history and making mobile recharges.
The integration allows users to access these UPI services on supported feature phones without switching to a smartphone. HMD said the integration is part of its broader effort to expand the role of feature phones beyond calls and messages by enabling access to digital services relevant to everyday use.

Speaking on this launch, Ravi Kunwar, CEO and VP, HMD India and APAC, said:
Digital payments are now a part of everyday life in India, and we believe that convenience should be available to everyone, regardless of the phone they use. Millions of people continue to choose feature phones because they are simple, reliable and do exactly what they need. With PhonePe, we are bringing an important everyday service to the devices people already know and trust. At HMD, we have always believed that technology should work around people and their needs, not the other way around. This partnership is a step toward that direction.
Speaking on the launch, Sameer Nigam, Founder and CEO, PhonePe, said,
Over the last decade, UPI has completely transformed how India pays–a journey PhonePe is proud to have built alongside it from day one. As we reflect on how far we have come, the logical next step is expanding the horizon even further and unlocking what’s next. Bringing UPI to feature phones through PhonePe UPI 123Pay extends the benefits of digital payments beyond smartphones to every corner of the country. To us, this is what building for India actually means- meeting people where they are to drive a truly universal wave of financial inclusion that will onboard the next 300 million users into the digital financial fold.
