WhatsApp has introduced Web Calling, allowing users to make and receive one-on-one and group audio and video calls directly from WhatsApp Web without installing the desktop app.
WhatsApp Web Calling
Users can now make and receive one-on-one and group audio and video calls through a supported web browser. The browser experience also includes:
- Screen sharing
- Emoji reactions
- Dedicated Calls tab
- Complete call history
- Favourite contacts
WhatsApp said calls made through the browser are protected with end-to-end encryption, have no time limits, and are available at no cost.
New calling features
Call Transfer
Call Transfer lets users move an active group call between supported devices without disconnecting. Users can start a call on a smartphone or tablet and transfer it to WhatsApp Web or the desktop app, or switch back to a mobile device while continuing the same call.
Waiting Room
Waiting Room adds an approval step for participants joining group calls through a call link. When creating a WhatsApp call link, users can enable the “Require approval to join” option, allowing participants to wait until the host approves their request before joining the call.
QuickHD
QuickHD enables high-definition video within the first few seconds of a call.
Noise Suppression
Noise Suppression reduces background noise during calls to improve voice clarity. The feature can be enabled or disabled at any time from the in-call settings.
Availability
WhatsApp said these features are rolling out gradually and will be available to all users soon.
