Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8 and the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra smartphones last week, and we have the unboxing and the first impressions of the Galaxy Z Fold8, which has a new form factor that is new for Samsung foldables.

Starting with the screen, the Z Fold8 has a 7.6-inch (1848 x 2448pixels) QXGA+ 4:3 aspect ratio main display aimed at immersive viewing for gaming and video content.
Rotating the screen transitions the aspect ratio into a format optimized for reading e-books and long-form articles. It uses a 120Hz LTPO panel, and the sunlight legibility is good since it has low reflection. It offers up to 3000 nits of peak brightness.
There is a 5.5-inch (1248 x 1972 pixels) 16:10 WUXGA+ 10:16 aspect ratio AMOLED cover screen designed for quick interactions such as messaging, browsing, and social media navigation. You can use it as a normal phone without opening it. It also uses a 120Hz LTPO panel, and the sunlight legibility is good. It offers up to 3000 nits of peak brightness.
Powered by the latest Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy 3nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 840 GPU that we had seen in the Galaxy S26 Ultra, it is clocked up to 4.74 GHz. It as up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.
The phone has a 10MP inner and outer cameras that we had seen in the older Fold7.
The phone runs One UI 9 with Android 17 out of the box. It will get 7 years of Android and security updates, similar to older flagship models.
The power button that embedds the fingerprint scanner and the volume rockers are present on the right side. The USB type-C port and the microphone are on the bottom.
You can also see the speaker vent on the other part. On the top there is a speaker vent and the SIM slot. This time the company has switch from dual physical SIM slots to nano + eSIM combination. You can also use dual eSIMs by turning off the physical SIM. The phone is 9.7mm thick when folded.
Unfolded, the phone is just 4.5mm thick. It incorporates a titanium-alloy film combined with an enhanced titanium plate to strengthen structural support, absorb impact, and reduce visible crease lines over time.
There are dual 50 MP rear sensors maintained across wide and ultra-wide lenses to deliver consistent high-resolution imaging. It offers dual recording, allowing users to capture video using both front and rear cameras simultaneously, utilizing the cover screen as a live preview interface. My FanCam automatically tracks a designated subject and reframes video footage into target aspect ratios for streamlined content sharing.

The phone has a glass back and has a matte-finish glass that looks and feels premium, but it might be slippery, so it is recommended to get a case. It weighs just 201 grams, making it easy to carry for a foldable phone. The phone packs a 4800mAh battery compared to 4400mAh in the Z Fold7.
It also gets faster 45W wired and 20W wireless charging, up from 25W and 15W, respectively.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at Rs 1,79,999, and pre-orders are open now, with offers, and sales will start from August 8 in Graphite, Cream, and Lavender, plus a Pistachio shade exclusive to Samsung’s online store.
