The process of transitioning from iOS to Android has become significantly more streamlined with the introduction of a new native migration experience built directly into Android 17.
Unveiled alongside Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Series lineup at Galaxy Unpacked, the updated system allows users to wirelessly transfer a broader range of data types from an iPhone to an Android device without the need to download a separate application.
Enhanced Native Android Migration Experience
The upgraded transfer process simplifies moving core user data—such as photos, videos, contacts, messages, and calendar entries—while expanding support to include several new data categories:
- Google Account details
- Saved passwords and Wi-Fi credentials
- eSIM data
This enhanced native experience has begun rolling out to select Google Pixel devices and is integrated into the newly launched Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 series. Availability is expected to expand to additional Android devices in the near future.
Samsung Smart Switch Upgrades & Cross-Platform File Sharing
In tandem with the platform-level updates, Samsung’s updated Smart Switch utility introduces additional capabilities designed to reduce device setup time for former iOS users:
- QR Code Pairing: Users can initiate a wireless transfer simply by scanning a QR code on their existing iPhone.
- Expanded Data Support: Smart Switch now supports the migration of passwords, passkeys, call history, accessibility settings, and eSIM profiles.
Additionally, cross-platform file transfers between iOS and Galaxy hardware have been addressed. Through newly added Quick Share compatibility with AirDrop, users can now share files bi-directionally between iOS and Galaxy devices without relying on third-party workarounds.
