Airtel has announced the deployment of more than 2,900 new 5G sites across the Upper North region over the past 12 months. According to the company, the network expansion is aimed at delivering faster data speeds, broader coverage, and enhanced connectivity for its subscriber base.
The deployment spans 77 districts, extending high-speed connectivity to a customer base of over 28.6 million users. The rollout encompasses a diverse range of geographies, connecting major urban centers, fast-growing towns, and remote rural villages. To achieve this footprint, the telecom operator maintained an average installation rate of more than eight new sites activated daily over the one-year period.
The upgraded infrastructure is expected to support standard digital activities, including high-definition streaming, rapid file downloads, remote working and learning, and digital payment processing across varied locations.
Customers across all districts of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir are positioned to receive direct coverage from this expanded network. Bharti Airtel stated that the enhanced infrastructure is intended to provide high-speed 5G access to individual citizens, students, micro-entrepreneurs, large enterprises, and government institutions across both urban and rural markets in these states and union territories.
Regarding the 5G expansion, Anupam Arora, CEO – Upper North, Bharti Airtel, said:
Data demand across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir is surging, and we are staying ahead by relentlessly strengthening our network.
