Microsoft unveils Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition with translucent design

Microsoft has officially revealed the Xbox 25th Anniversary Collection, a limited-edition lineup of hardware designed to commemorate a quarter-century of the gaming brand. Developed as a tribute to the platform’s history and its community, the collection features a nostalgic translucent “OG Green” aesthetic inspired by the original 2001 Xbox console.

The collection includes a specially designed Xbox Series X console and a matching Xbox Wireless Controller, both incorporating various design nods to the brand’s origins alongside hidden details intended for long-time fans.

Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition

The centerpiece of the collection is the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition, marking the first time Microsoft has applied a translucent chassis to its current-generation flagship console.

While maintaining the standard technical specifications and performance of the base Xbox Series X—including 1 TB of storage—this version introduces several hardware alterations:

  • Translucent Chassis: A shell utilizing the classic “OG Green” color scheme, offering a view of the internal components.
  • Illuminated Power Button: The iconic “X” logo on the console power button illuminates in green when turned on, mimicking the startup sequence of the original Xbox.
  • Anniversary Branding: The official Xbox 25th Anniversary logo is prominently featured on the front faceplate alongside other commemorative design elements.
Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition

Alongside the console, Microsoft is releasing the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition. The peripheral integrates several historical design cues from the brand’s 25-year history into the modern controller architecture:

  • Retro Color Palette: The face buttons utilize the original primary layout for the ABXY colors, set against the translucent green front shell.
  • Nostalgic Accents: The top bumpers are styled to honor the classic black and white buttons found on the original 2001 “Duke” controller.
  • Transparent Reverse Case: The back casing and battery door are fully clear, exposing the internal mechanics and an embedded classic Xbox logo.
Availability and Release Window

The Xbox 25th Anniversary Collection is scheduled to launch in November in select global markets.

The translucent console and controller will be packaged together as a limited-edition bundle. For players only interested in the peripheral, the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition will also be sold separately as a standalone purchase.

Microsoft has stated that specific regional pricing, preorder dates, and participating retailers will be announced in the near future.
