Lava International Limited, an Indian mobile manufacturing brand, has officially inaugurated a new component and charger manufacturing unit at its Noida plant. The facility represents a strategic move toward increased localization and enhanced quality control within the company’s production ecosystem.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Shri Sunil Kumar Sharma, honorable minister of electronics & information technology, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Key executives from Lava International, including Managing Director Mr. Sunil Raina and Executive Director & Chief Manufacturing Officer Mr. Sanjeev Agarwal, were also in attendance.
Strategic Expansion and ‘Make in India’ Alignment
The establishment of this new unit aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. By integrating Six Sigma principles, Lava aims to improve manufacturing quality, operational efficiency, and overall value.
The company has been systematically building its domestic capabilities since 2015. This latest expansion is designed to broaden production capacity and reinforce the local supply chain for the mobile hardware sector.
Production Capacity and Workforce Development
The Noida facility plays a significant role in Lava’s production output and employment strategy:
- Current Workforce: 3,000+ employees
- Existing Production Capacity: 20 million units annually
- New Component Capacity: 9 million units annually
Employee Skill Progression
To support this expansion, Lava has implemented structured workforce development programs. These initiatives are designed to provide clear career progression from assembly roles to engineering and supervisory positions:
- In-House Training: Technical modules tailored to advanced manufacturing processes.
- NAPS Apprenticeships: Structured learning under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme.
- B.Voc Programme: A Bachelor of Vocation degree program where university fees are fully sponsored by Lava.
Market Implications
This manufacturing milestone is intended to accelerate domestic value addition and reduce reliance on global component supply chains. While Lava maintains a significant position in the global feature phone market, the company is concurrently expanding its smartphone market share and diversifying into True Wireless Stereo (TWS) audio manufacturing.
Speaking at the inauguration, Shri Sunil Kumar Sharma, Honourable Minister of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of Uttar Pradesh, said:
UP government under the leadership of Shri Yogi Adityanath envisions Noida to be the mobile manufacturing hub of India. The developmental goals are aimed at building a state that fosters progress, employment opportunities and strict law and order. I congratulate Lava leadership and the workers on this milestone and assure people of industrial growth and prosperity in the region.
Sunil Raina, Managing Director, Lava International Limited, said:
Lava Mobiles in its 17 years journey has always prioritised building a homegrown technology brand rooted in India for global audience. We have valued product quality, manufacturing capabilities, design autonomy and most importantly a clean, clear product experience for the users. The new manufacturing unit is in line with Lava’s vision to pivot innovation from India for the world. We have been pioneers of the Make-in-India initiative and with government’s support we aim to bolster our manufacturing and RND capabilities by 2030. I am grateful to Shri Sunil Kumar Sharmaji for his unwavering support in this endeavour and for enabling the state of Uttar Pradesh to be at the forefront of India’s technological revolution.
Sanjeev Agarwal, Executive Director & Chief Manufacturing Officer, Lava International Limited, said:
India’s electronics story is incomplete if analysed only through export numbers and production volumes. It must cater to the needs and demands of the Indian users, create job opportunities and prospects for engineers to innovate and develop products for their country people.
