Spotify has officially announced a significant price revision for its premium subscriptions in India. The streaming giant is making its ad-free experience more accessible, specifically targeting students and individual users.
This overhaul comes just six months after Spotify introduced a tiered “Standard, Lite, and Platinum” model. Before that, it increased prices back in August last year for the first time since the India launch in 2019.
By slashing prices, Spotify is effectively merging its “Lite” and “Standard” tiers, giving users the full premium experience—including offline downloads and high-quality 320kbps audio—at a much lower entry point.
| Plan | Previous Price | New Price | Percentage Decrease |
|---|---|---|---|
| Student | Rs. 99/month | Rs. 69/month | 30% |
| Individual | Rs. 199/month | Rs. 139/month | 30% |
| Platinum | Rs. 299/month | Rs. 299/month | NA |
Previously, the Rs. 139 “Lite” plan didn’t allow for offline downloads or high-quality audio. By dropping the “Standard” price to Rs. 139, Spotify has discontinued the Lite plan entirely. Users are essentially getting a massive feature upgrade for the same price they were paying for the basic version.
At Rs. 69, Spotify is now one of the most competitive platforms for the younger demographic, directly challenging local giants like JioSaavn and international rivals like YouTube Music.
If you are a new subscriber, these prices are available immediately on the Spotify app and website. For existing subscribers on the legacy Rs. 199 Individual plan, Spotify will likely transition you to the new Rs. 139 rate in your next billing cycle, or offer you an easy “switch” button within the app settings.
