Sony has scheduled its Xperia product launch event on May 13th, in which the company is expected to launch the new Xperia 1 VIII flagship smartphone.
The teaser shows the change in camera deco from vertical to square, as revealed in the renders. Based on recent rumors, the phone will come in Graphite Black, Iolite Silver, Garnet Red and Native Gold.
Sony already confirmed that it will launch new Xperia phones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform in 2026, so we can expect the chip in the flagship.
The phone is said to get three 48-megapixel cameras, upgrading the telephoto lens from the 12-megapixel sensor in the older models. However, it is said to have lost the continuous variable optical zoom function. In addition, Sony is expected to retain the 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card slot for the Xperia 1 VIII to meet the core needs of loyal users.
The Sony Xperia launch event on May 13th will start at 11AM JST (7:30 AM IST), and there is a live premiere. Similar to other flagships, this is also expected to get a price increase.
