Xiaomi Tag tracker with Android and iOS support announced

Xiaomi has officially expanded its ecosystem of smart accessories with the introduction of the Xiaomi Tag. Entering the growing market of Bluetooth trackers, the new device is designed to help users locate personal items such as keys, wallets, and luggage through a compact, battery-operated fob.

Cross-Platform Compatibility

One of the most notable aspects of the Xiaomi Tag is its broad compatibility. The tracker integrates with the Apple “Find My” network, allowing iOS users to leverage Apple’s extensive tracking infrastructure.

Additionally, it is fully compatible with Android devices via the Xiaomi Home app, positioning it as a versatile option for users regardless of their preferred mobile operating system.

Design and Tracking Features

The Xiaomi Tag features a minimalist, oval-shaped white design. Its compact footprint and 10g weight, allows it to be easily slipped into a wallet or attached to keychains and bags using third-party accessories.

For locating misplaced items nearby, the tag is equipped with a built-in speaker capable of emitting a loud sound to guide the user. For items left further away, the device utilizes its network compatibility to provide location updates on a map interface. The system also supports “left behind” alerts, notifying users on their smartphone if they are separated from their tagged item.

Battery Life and Durability

Battery endurance is a critical factor for tracking devices. Xiaomi states that the Tag offers a battery life of over one year, minimizing the frequency of battery replacements.

The device is also built to withstand daily environmental exposure, featuring IP67 rating for water and dust resistance to ensure reliability when attached to exterior items like luggage or backpacks.

Privacy and Security

Addressing standard security concerns associated with location trackers, Xiaomi has emphasized privacy protections in the Tag’s design. The tracking data is encrypted, and the system includes built-in privacy protocols designed to prevent unauthorized tracking and protect user data.

Pricing and availability

The Xiaomi Tag comes in white colour and is priced at RM 79 for the single unit and RM 299 for a 4-pack. After the launch discount, the pricing is RM 59 and RM 199, respectively. It is now available in Malaysia and select European countries and will expand to other markets in the coming weeks.
