Amazon opens its 2nd-largest Asia office in Bengaluru

Amazon has officially announced the opening of its second-largest office space in Asia, located in Bengaluru, India. The new corporate building was inaugurated by Dr. M.B. Patil, the Government of Karnataka’s Minister for Large & Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development.

The launch of the Bengaluru campus aligns with Amazon’s broader expansion strategy in the region. The company has invested over $40 billion in India to date and has outlined a commitment to invest an additional $35 billion by 2030.

Campus Specifications and Operations

Situated on a five-acre site approximately 15 kilometers from Kempegowda International Airport, the new facility is designed to serve as a major hub for Amazon’s Indian operations.

  • Size and Structure: The campus spans 1.1 million square feet across a 12-storey building.
  • Capacity: It is equipped to support over 7,000 employees.
  • Business Functions: The facility will house teams across multiple divisions, including e-commerce, operations, payments, technology, and seller services.
Workspace Design and Amenities

The corporate building is structured to support large-scale collaboration and flexible working arrangements. The interior layout is organized into “self-sustaining neighborhoods,” integrating a variety of workspaces and amenities:

  • Professional Spaces: Features include adaptable workstations, meeting rooms, huddle spaces, breakout areas, and dedicated event spaces capable of hosting over 200 people.
  • Recreational Facilities: Employees have access to outdoor community spaces, landscaped lawns, an amphitheater, and sports courts for basketball and pickleball.
  • Dining: Two floors of the building are dedicated to cafeterias that offer a variety of global cuisines.
Environmental and Sustainability Initiatives

The construction and operation of the new campus factor into Amazon’s corporate sustainability goals, specifically its commitment to reaching net-zero carbon by 2040 under The Climate Pledge.

To reduce both operational and embodied carbon across its corporate real estate portfolio, the Bengaluru project incorporates several environmental strategies such as responsible sourcing of construction materials, the reuse of existing office assets and the implementation of high-efficiency building systems.

Dr. M.B. Patil, Minister for Large & Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, Government of Karnataka, said:

Amazon’s continued investment in Bengaluru reflects India’s growing role as a global technology and innovation hub. Large-scale campuses like Amazon’s new campus create high-quality jobs, strengthen local ecosystem, and support India’s digital economy. We welcome investments that build long-term capability and create opportunity for our workforce.

Samir Kumar, Country Manager Amazon India, said:

India continues to be a long-term priority for Amazon, and Bengaluru has played a central role in our journey here. Over the years, the city has been home to some of our earliest technology and business teams, and today it remains a key hub for innovation and talent. We are grateful to Dr. M.B. Patil for joining us to inaugurate this campus and for Government of Karnataka’s continued support. As we build for customers in India and around the world, we remain committed to investing in infrastructure, technology, and talent for the long term.
