Hisense inaugurates first manufacturing facility in India at Sri City

Hisense has inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India. The plant is established through a joint venture with Epack Manufacturing Technologies Private Limited (EMTPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Epack Durable Limited (EDL).

Located within EDL’s industrial park at Sri City, this development signifies a shift in Hisense’s operational model from import-led distribution to integrated local manufacturing, aligning with the Government of India’s “Make in India” initiative.

Investment and Infrastructure

Developed with an investment exceeding USD 30 million, the new facility spans a 10-acre campus situated alongside EDL’s existing Original Design Manufacturing (ODM) plant. Commercial production is scheduled to commence in February 2026.

Once fully operational, the plant is designed to manufacture 100% of Hisense India’s Room Air Conditioner (RAC) requirements. This localization is intended to enhance supply chain capabilities, reduce dependence on imports, and improve cost efficiencies for the Indian market.

Phased Operational Rollout

The facility is being developed in a phased manner to accommodate different product categories over the coming fiscal years:

  • Phase 1 (Current): Focused exclusively on Room Air Conditioners, this phase has an initial installed capacity of 0.75 million units annually. It will produce Hisense’s global portfolio, including the F-Series, Eco Series, Intelli Perla Series, and the forthcoming Intelli Pro Series.
  • Phase 2 (Scheduled Q2 FY27): Operations will expand to include the manufacturing of washing machines, covering both top-load and front-load categories.
  • Phase 3 (Scheduled Q3 FY27): The final planned phase will extend production capabilities to include LED televisions.
Employment and Economic Impact

The plant currently employs approximately 500 people. Hisense projects that the facility will generate employment for nearly 1,500 professionals over the next 12 to 24 months. Recruitment is currently underway for various functions, including supply chain management, finance, administration, and skilled technical manufacturing roles.

Beyond domestic distribution, the facility is positioned to cater to export markets, leveraging Sri City’s status as a key integrated manufacturing Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Commenting on the inauguration, Pankaj Rana, CEO, Hisense India, said:

The new facility represents a pivotal step in Hisense’s evolution in India. Sri City allows us to strengthen our local production capabilities while aligning closely with the Make in India mission. This plant enables us to deepen control over quality, cost, and supply chains, while creating a strong platform to scale operations and customize products for Indian consumers. It reinforces our intent to build a locally rooted, manufacturing-led organisation in India.

Congratulating Hisense India, Ajay Singhania, Managing Director & CEO at Epack Durable, said:

We at Epack Durable are proud to have partnered with Hisense India on its first manufacturing venture in India. This facility is a strong embodiment of the collaboration between Hisense’s technology and Epack Durable’s technical expertise in consumer durables. Adhering to global manufacturing standards, this facility will showcase India’s production capabilities and strengthen the country’s position as a preferred partner for global cos planning long-term expansion.
