Tata Play Binge gets Shots hub for vertical micro-dramas

Tata Play Binge has announced the expansion of its content portfolio with the launch of Shots, a new category dedicated to mobile-only, vertical micro-dramas. Designed to cater to the growing demand for quick, on-the-go entertainment, the service is now available to all existing Tata Play Binge subscribers at no additional cost.

A Mobile-First Viewing Experience

The ‘Shots’ category is engineered specifically for mobile consumption, featuring a user interface that supports vertical viewing. Key technical features include a scroll-friendly design and auto-next playback, mimicking the ease of navigation found on social media platforms.

The content consists of episodes ranging from 1 to 2 minutes in length, making them suitable for short viewing windows such as commutes, queues, or brief breaks. At launch, the platform hosts over 160 micro-dramas spanning genres like action, drama, and thrillers, totaling approximately 110 hours of content.

Content Partners and Regional Diversity

The initial library is powered by content partners Bullet and STAGE, with Tata Play Binge indicating that more partners will be onboarded in the coming months. The slate includes stories in Hindi as well as key regional languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Haryanvi, and Rajasthani.

Launch titles featured on the platform include:

  • Hindi: Ishq Kills, Divorce Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, Rent A Boyfriend, and Main Hoon Aprajita.
  • Telugu: One Last Ride.
  • Haryanvi: 12vi Aala Pyar and Gaurav Ki Sweety.
  • Rajasthani: Aafat Ya Pyar and Horror Haveli.
Strategic Focus on Short-Form Consumption

The introduction of Shots aims to complement Tata Play Binge’s existing long-form catalogue by engaging users with high-frequency, snackable content.

Expanding the Aggregation Ecosystem

Shots is integrated directly into the Tata Play Binge app via dedicated home-page rails and a standalone section, removing the need for users to switch apps or manage separate subscriptions for micro-content.

This launch reinforces Tata Play Binge’s role as a content aggregator. Shots joins a roster of over 30 OTT platforms currently accessible through a single subscription and interface, including Prime Video, JioHotstar, ZEE5, Apple TV, Lionsgate, and Discovery+, among others.

While Shots is mobile-optimized, the broader Tata Play Binge service remains accessible across large-screen connected devices, including Android and VIDAA OS Smart TVs, the Tata Play Binge+ Android set-top box, and the Amazon Fire TV Stick (Tata Play edition).

Regarding the launch of the new content category, Pallavi Puri, Tata Play’s Chief Commercial and Content Officer, said:

Short‑form, vertical storytelling has quickly moved into the mainstream and is now one of the most popular ways people watch content on mobile. As viewers shift toward quicker, more frequent watch sessions, we’ve focused on creating formats that align with these evolving habits. Shots is a natural extension of this—bringing micro‑dramas from multiple partners into one seamless destination. By making quality, mobile‑first stories available at no extra cost, we’re not only supporting evolving viewer habits, but also helping our content partners reach wider audiences through a unified aggregation platform.
