India only got the POCO M8, but the company also introduced the M8 Pro model for the global markets. This has almost similar specifications as the REDMI Note 15 Pro+ which was introduced in China last year.
Performance and Hardware
The POCO M8 Pro 5G is powered by the Snapdragon® 7s Gen 4 Mobile Platform. According to POCO, the new processor delivers a 66% increase in performance compared to the previous generation, achieving an AnTuTu benchmark score of over 1.06 million.
To manage thermal output during intensive tasks, the device utilizes the POCO IceLoop Cooling System. This marks the first time liquid cooling technology has been implemented in the POCO M Series.
Battery and Charging
A primary feature of the M8 Pro is its 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery with support for 100W HyperCharge, which can charge the battery to 100% in approximately 40 minutes. Additionally, the phone supports up to 22.5W reverse charging, allowing it to charge other accessories. The system includes battery management software designed to optimize charging efficiency and extend the battery’s lifespan.
Display and Audio
The smartphone features a 6.83-inch 1.5K CrystalRes Flow AMOLED display. It has a peak brightness of 3,200 nits and support for Dolby Vision® and HDR10+. The display also utilizes 3840Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and DC dimming to regulate brightness.
For audio, the M8 Pro is equipped with dual 1115F speakers. The system supports Dolby Atmos® and holds Dual Gold Hi-Res Audio certification.
Camera Specifications
The rear camera module is anchored by a 50MP Light Fusion 800 main sensor equipped with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The device sees the return of 4K video recording at 30fps and includes DXG High-Dynamic Range video technology. For the front camera, POCO has included an upgraded 32MP sensor. The imaging system is supported by AI tools for photo editing and motion capture.
Design and Durability
The M8 Pro 5G measures 8.31mm in thickness and weighs 205.9g, featuring a quad-curved edge design. The display is protected by Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2.
The device carries extensive ingress protection ratings, including IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K, signifying resistance to dust, water immersion, and high-pressure water sprays. It also features Wet Touch 2.0 technology, designed to maintain touch responsiveness when the screen is wet.
Connectivity and Software
Running on Xiaomi HyperOS, the device integrates AI features such as Google Gemini and Circle to Search with Google. Connectivity is managed by the Xiaomi Surge T1S Tuner. The phone also debuts “Xiaomi Offline Communication,” a feature that purportedly allows for voice calls over limited distances without cellular network access.
