Google has released the 2025 edition of Google Photos Recap, creating a year-in-review highlight reel from users’ photos and videos. The feature, introduced last year, is designed to help users revisit moments from the past year. This year adds new ways to personalize, create and share your Recap, said Tommy Meaney, Senior Product Manager, Google Photos.
Look back at the moments that made your year
The 2025 Recap combines photos and clips with updated graphics and cinematic effects. Returning stats include top people and total photo count, and this year adds a selfie count.
For users in the U.S. who have Gemini features enabled in Google Photos, the Recap will also surface standout hobbies and top highlights from the year. In response to user feedback, Google now allows users to hide specific people or photos and regenerate an updated Recap afterward.
Create and share with your favorite apps
A new Edit with CapCut button lets users export their Recap to CapCut and choose from exclusive Google Photos templates for further customization. Sharing has also been streamlined with a carousel of short videos and collages generated from the Recap for quick posting on social platforms or group chats. Users can also share their Recap directly to WhatsApp Status.
Relive your Recap throughout the month
The 2025 Recap will appear in the Memories carousel starting this week. If it does not display automatically, some users may see an option at the top of the app to request creation.
After it has been viewed, the Recap will move to the back of the Memories carousel and remain pinned in the Collections tab for all of December. Throughout the month, users will also see additional 2025 highlights in the Memories carousel.
