Meta at the exclusive ‘House of Instagram’ event in Mumbai today shared two updates for Instagram, aimed at expanding language support and font options for creators in India.
Meta AI Translations in Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi
Meta announced that creators will soon be able to use Meta AI to translate and dub Instagram and Facebook Reels in five additional Indian languages: Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi.
In October, Meta introduced the ability for creators to dub and lip-sync reels in English, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese. The new expansion allows creators to make content accessible in more Indian languages while reaching broader audiences globally.
The tool preserves the creator’s voice and tone during translation. A lip-sync feature can align the translated audio with mouth movements to maintain natural visual presentation.
New Indian Fonts on Instagram Edits
Meta is also introducing new fonts supporting Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese scripts, allowing creators to style text and captions in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and Assamese.
To use these fonts:
- Open your editing timeline and select “Text” from the bottom toolbar.
- Tap the “Aa” icon to view available fonts.
- Devices set in Devanagari or Bengali-Assamese scripts will display these fonts by default. Other devices can swipe down in the “all fonts” tab to filter fonts by language.
Other Creator Tools
Meta noted that these new updates follow a spree of other features launched in the past month to benefit creators. This includes the ability to:
- Restyle photos and videos in Instagram Stories
- Make edits—big or small—using Meta AI
- Bulk edit captions
- Reverse videos
- Use lip-sync to animate photos
- Access 400 additional sound effects
Availability
The new AI translation features and Indian fonts will roll out on Android devices in the coming months.
