OPPO LUMO Lab India-exclusive initiative for localized imaging launched

In a move to tailor its advanced mobile photography technology to the Indian market, OPPO India has announced the LUMO Lab, an India-exclusive initiative focused on co-creating and refining imaging experiences that reflect the country’s visual diversity.

The establishment of the LUMO Lab coincides with the upcoming launch of the OPPO Find X9 Series. The initiative is designed to ensure that OPPO’s camera technology—including the new Hasselblad optics and LUMO Imaging Engine—truly resonates with local users and addresses India’s unique photography challenges.

Purpose and Focus

The LUMO Lab will bring together OPPO’s in-house imaging experts and leading Indian photographers. The collaboration will center on real-world storytelling, with a focus on several key areas that reflect local culture and visual scenes:

  • Authentic Skin Tones: Ensuring natural and accurate rendering of diverse skin tones.
  • Vibrant Celebrations: Capturing the intense colours and dynamic scenes of festivals and events.
  • Intricate Textures: Highlighting the fine details of traditional craftsmanship and local environments.
The Expert Panel

To drive this localization, OPPO has partnered with acclaimed Indian photographers Joseph Radhik, Ashik Aseem, and Zaid Salman.

This expert panel will collaborate closely with OPPO’s in-house imaging team, focusing on refining the imaging capabilities of the Find X platform, starting with the Find X9 Series.

The goal is to integrate real-world insights from the LUMO Lab into the technology, setting a new benchmark for smartphone photography that celebrates authenticity, emotion, and the beauty of everyday Indian moments.

Commenting on LUMO Lab, Simon Liu, Global Imaging Director, OPPO, said:

LUMO Lab embodies OPPO’s commitment to advancing human-centric imaging tailored to India’s vibrant landscape. Our goal is to understand the unique challenges of the local market and create technology that acts as a creative partner, empowering photographers, creators, and everyday users to express themselves freely. Launching with the Find X9 Series, LUMO Lab marks the beginning of an exciting journey to explore new frontiers in smartphone photography that celebrates India’s rich visual tapestry.
