OnePlus ends Hasselblad partnership, OnePlus DetailMax Engine to debut in next flagship

OnePlus has officially announced the conclusion of its five-year partnership with legendary camera brand Hasselblad. The collaboration, which focused on color science and computational photography, will be succeeded by OnePlus’s in-house imaging system, the OnePlus DetailMax Engine.

The company’s statement reflected on the partnership, noting that Hasselblad’s “refined aesthetic sense” is now “part of our imaging DNA.” The partnership’s goal was to blend Hasselblad’s color science with OnePlus’s computational photography to deliver true-to-life images.

Introducing the DetailMax Engine

Moving forward, OnePlus is shifting its focus to an in-house imaging solution, citing a consistent demand from users for “clear and real” photos, particularly when they “pinch to zoom in on their photos.” The company stated that this user feedback guided its decision to build the DetailMax Engine from the ground up.

The new engine is described as a move toward a new era of computational imaging that prioritizes “delivering images with unmatched depth and realism” without “over-beautification or distortion.” OnePlus claims the DetailMax Engine will leverage “greater processing power and advanced algorithms” to capture and interpret more data.

Future Implications and Market Speculation

While a prototype of the new engine is still in the early stages of testing, OnePlus has expressed confidence that its upcoming flagship—expected to be the OnePlus 15—will “set a new standard for clarity in its class.”

This news follows recent rumors about OPPO’s “Lumo Image Engine” for the OnePlus 15 in China, where OnePlus phones run ColorOS. This suggests that the DetailMax Engine could be the global branding outside China.

Update: OnePlus has officially announced that its new flagship will use OPPO’s self-developed LUMO Image Engine in China, and has also released camera samples from the phone showing 85mm telephoto shots.

This change also comes after OPPO extended its own partnership with Hasselblad for its flagship Find Series, following a four-year collaboration.
