Google Vids adds AI avatars, image-to-video, automatic transcript trim and more

Google has expanded Vids, its AI-powered video creation tool, with several new features now accessible to general users. The update introduces new ways to create professional-looking videos quickly, alongside upcoming enhancements designed to make video production even more flexible and accessible.

Key Features: Google Vids

Image-to-Video with Veo 3

Vids now supports turning photos into dynamic eight-second video clips with sound. Teams can animate product shots, stock photography, or brand visuals by combining images with text prompts.

AI Avatars for Presentations

Teams can generate video presentations by writing a script and selecting an avatar, removing the need to record themselves. This feature is designed for trainings, demos, onboarding, and other internal communications.

Automatic Transcript Trim

When recording directly in Vids, an auto-trim tool cleans up filler words and long pauses, producing polished results with fewer takes.

Noise Cancellation & Appearance Tools

Google is also bringing noise cancellation, virtual backgrounds, filters, and appearance adjustments—similar to those in Google Meet—into Vids.

Multiple Sizing Formats

To make sharing easier across platforms, Vids will soon support portrait, landscape, and square formats for video exports.

Instructional Series: “Vids on Vids”

Google launched a new “Vids on Vids” tutorial series to help users get the most out of the platform. The series demonstrates video planning, recording, AI storyboarding, and using animations and transitions, with new episodes to be added as more features roll out.

Growing User Base

Google reported that Vids now has over 1 million monthly active users. The tool is available across:

  • Business and Enterprise Starter customers
  • Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers
  • Workspace for Education users
  • Consumers via the free basic editor (without Gemini AI), which includes templates for tutorials, event invites, and podcast teasers
Customer Stories

Google emphasized that organizations such as Fullstory, Mercer International, Natura, and Trimble have already adopted Google Vids.

  • Mercer International uses it for employee safety training, with CIO Alistair Skey noting it saves hiring “very expensive resources.”
  • At Fullstory, the platform helps scale content creation, with Forest Donovan saying the ability to produce “high gloss” content in hours instead of weeks has been “astounding.”
