Samsung Galaxy A55 first to receive ‘Seamless Android Update’ with March security patch

Samsung recently introduced its new Galaxy A55 smartphone, which has now become the first Samsung device to receive a seamless Android update, including the latest March 2024 patch, as reported first by The Mobile Indian.

The update now happens in two stages: downloading and installing, and verification, as you can see in the first image posted by SamMobile. You still need to restart the phone. However, after restarting, you don’t see the typical One UI installation screen seen with other Samsung phones. Additionally, the device rebooted faster than the Galaxy S24+ after receiving the March 2024 patch.

Normally, when updating, Samsung phones require a restart for installation, rendering the device unusable until the process completes. However, with the Galaxy A55, users were able to continue using their phones while the update downloaded in the background.

This is different from other Samsung devices, which still require users to wait through the installation process.

To remind you about “Seamless updates”: They depend on two system partitions. New software is installed on the inactive partition, needing only a quick reboot to switch to the updated one, saving time. They also enhance safety by creating a system backup during installation. But they require more system storage.

While the Galaxy A55 now supports seamless updates, Samsung hasn’t extended this feature to all its devices yet. It’s likely that high-end models will also receive this update soon.

Availability

The update, with firmware version A556EXXS1AXC1 for the Galaxy A55, is currently rolling out in India.
