Ericsson increases production in India for 5G deployments

Today, Ericsson announced that, in order to support the requirements of 5G network installations in India, it is expanding production capacity and operations in Pune alongside its partner Jabil. In 1994, Ericsson was the first telecom company to begin manufacturing in India.

It works with Jabil to make things like 4G and 5G radios, RAN compute, and microwave products. In addition to expanding operations with high-tech production, the ramp-up of production will create jobs for over 2,000 workers in Pune, India. Ericsson India is also developing a technology centre to improve flexibility and speed in bringing products to market, the company said in its article.

This will focus on new product introduction, production engineering, testing, and integration, supply preparations for early-phase products, and operational assistance to ensure effective 5G development and deployment in India.

Additionally, the initial production of Ericsson’s ultra-compact, Massive MIMO antenna integrated radios, model numbers AIR 3219 and AIR 3268, will take place there to support 5G installations. Moreover, to support its 5G production in India, Ericsson will collaborate with regional ecosystem partners.

According to the November 2022 edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report, 5G subscriptions in the India region are predicted to rise quickly and reach approximately 690 million by the end of 2028 as a result of expanding 5G smartphone availability and affordability, as well as the quick adoption of smartphones in urban and rural areas.

Nunzio Mirtillo, Head of Market Area Southeast Asia, Oceania and India, Ericsson, says:

As 5G gets introduced in India, we are ramping up production of our 5G telecom equipment in Pune in a phased manner, to support the network deployments of Indian telecom service providers. The production in India is part of our global production footprint with a presence across continents. This footprint has enabled us to secure a global, flexible, and resilient supply chain to respond quickly to market and customer needs, whereby India also benefits.

With our experience of deploying 5G in more than 50 countries, we look forward to the opportunity of helping our partners to seamlessly transition to 5G. 5G is a platform for innovation that will transform India by digitalizing industries and providing new and immersive experiences to consumers. 5G can play an important role in achieving India’s digital inclusion goals and enable the country to realize its ‘Digital India’ vision.
