Amazon Pay instant P2P UPI payments launched in India

Amazon launched Amazon Pay UPI for seamless transactions on Android in February this year. The company partnered with Axis bank to issue UPI IDs to its customers and allowed them to link their bank account on their Amazon mobile app and make fast, easy, and secure payments directly from the bank account. Today, Amazon has launched person to person (P2P) payments through UPI for Android users with a launch offer.

Amazon users can now make instant bank-to-bank transfers using UPI platform on the Amazon app and users can use this functionality to settle bills/expenses with friends, lend/return money to family, pay rents, pay for services like house-help, newspaper bills, milk subscription and more. Users can also make payments by scanning UPI QR codes using the Amazon app.

As a part of launch offer, Amazon Pay users can get up to Rs. 120 cashback on sending Money through UPI.

How to make payments through Amazon Pay UPI?

Note:- Send/Receive money works only on Amazon’s Android app as of now

  • Open the Amazon app and sign in to your Amazon account
  • Click on the Hamburger menu and navigate to ‘Amazon Pay’
  • On the Amazon Pay page, click on ‘Send Money’
  • You will get three options on the next page viz ‘Send to a contact’, ‘Send to UPI ID’ and ‘Send to bank account’
  • Select any one of the methods and Amazon auto-detects if the contact is a registered Amazon Pay UPI customer and enables the instant bank to bank transfer.
  • If the contact is not registered for Amazon Pay UPI, the customer has the option to pay using any another BHIM UPI ID or contact’s bank account. After selecting the contact, input the amount, click on ‘Send Money’ and enter UPI PIN to confirm payment.

All P2P payments are secured through multi-factor authentication involving customer’s phone, SIM details, and UPI PIN. The money is transferred instantly and both the sender and receiver will be notified through SMS alerts and in-app notifications.

Commenting on the launch, Vikas Bansal, Director – Amazon Pay, said:

Our goal is to make Amazon Pay the most trusted, convenient and rewarding way to pay for our customers. The customers trust their Amazon app and we continue to expand payment use cases directly on the app. With this launch, we have the largest selection of shopping and payment use cases on the Amazon Android app which provides added convenience and control to our customers.
