Samsung reportedly working on 7th gen OLED displays, foldable OLEDs and more

Samsung’s latest flagships Galaxy S8 and S8+ have already received accolades f0r its Infinity display. Now, a latest report from the The Investor claims that Samsung is working on a 7th generation AMOLED display.

The report added that the new OLED portfolio will include “foldable OLED, chip-on-plastic OLED and 800ppi high-resolution OLED.” The AMOLED display will go into production sometime in the second quarter of 2017. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is expected to sport a 6.4-inch OLED display matching the same 18.5:9 aspect ratio of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus and sharing their native QHD+ (1440 x 2960) resolution.

Meanwhile, Samsung is also working on foldable smartphones dubbed as Galaxy X and Galaxy X1. The “foldable OLED” could also be used for these foldable smartphones that are said to have a different aspect ratio rather than the usual 16:9. Samsung is also said to be the major supplier of the OLED panels for Apple device to appear later this year.
